Parties with a Purpose are a fun way for hosts and guests to support the San Luis Obispo Symphony! Since all costs associated with the events are generously covered by the party hosts, every ticket you buy puts your dollars to work supporting the mission of the Symphony!

Experience the intersection of love, music, and imagination at this unforgettable Party with a Purpose, centered around “Melodee’s Theme” – an original orchestral work by composer and San Luis Obispo Symphony board president Stefan Podell. Commissioned by donor Jeff Brady as a tribute to his wife, Melodee, the piece was premiered by the Symphony in November 2023. This private event offers a deeper, more personal look into the heart of the music. Enjoy drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a behind-the-scenes presentation that pulls back the curtain on the entire creative process. From the initial inspiration to the final score, composer Stefan Podell, pianist Mark Pietri, and donor Jeff Brady will share their perspectives in an engaging Q&A, diving into how music can capture emotion, how a commission becomes a composition, and how instinct and craft work together to bring new music to life. You’ll see the concert video of the premiere, learn about the tools and decisions behind the composition and orchestration, and hear how an idea moves from words to music, from piano to orchestra. Then, enjoy the live premiere of the brand new solo piano rendition of “Melodee‘s Theme” performed by Mark Pietri. Limited to just 20 guests, this one-of-a-kind party offers an extraordinary look at the soul of a piece of music and the people who brought it to life. Each attendee will receive a printed copy of the piano reduction as a keepsake. Tickets are $125 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the artistic and educational programs of the San Luis Obispo Symphony.
