Strings in Schools

Get Ready for Fun!

Strings In Schools is a fantastic way to introduce your child to the joy of playing a musical instrument.

Strings In Schools offers after-school group lessons to introduce the foundation of playing a string instrument. Designed with beginners in mind, Strings in Schools teaches students how to count rhythm, read music, properly hold a string instrument and bow, and develop basic fingering technique.

This school year, we will hold a class at Baywood Elementary on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. Fill out the registration form to have your student participate.

Tuition & Scholarships

$180 tuition includes: 18 one-hour classes, instrument rental, and music book.

The San Luis Obispo Symphony is committed to making our music education programs accessible to all students.
Scholarships are available on the basis of need. Rest assured that all information will be kept confidential and only used for the purposes of determining eligibility for assistance.

A Unique Opportunity for the Love of Music

Strings in Schools is the only orchestra program that teaches violin, viola, and cello to public school elementary school students in our community.

Some SIS school sites are Title I, where a high percentage of low-income families are served. By keeping tuition low and offering need-based scholarships, the program helps fill the arts education gap while remaining accessible to everyone.

After one year, SIS students are encouraged to continue their musical training by private lessons.
