No Ties Allowed

Open rehearsals are a fun, casual, and engaging way to experience the Symphony. Get a sneak peek behind the scenes as Music Director Andrew Sewell leads the orchestra in a working rehearsal.

No Ties Allowed takes place at 11 AM before designated Classics concerts, at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo. Be part of a truly unique experience that lets you see exactly what it takes for an orchestra to master a piece of music.


Next No Ties Allowed: Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM

This is a free event, open to the public, and meant for all ages of music lovers. You do not need a ticket. Parking is free in the Grand Avenue structure.

While this rehearsal is open to the public, we kindly ask that you be respectful of the musicians as they rehearse. If you need to talk or make noise, please step into the lobby. You’re welcome to come and go as you wish — we’re glad you’re attending!

Attending No Ties Allowed is very flexible even if you need to arrive late or leave early,.

  • 10:30am arrive and park at the Performing Arts Center (1 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo)
  • 10:40am visit the Instrument Petting Zoo
  • 11:00am first half of the rehearsal
  • 11:50pm intermission
  • 12:10pm second half of the rehearsal
  • 1:00pm No Ties ends
